On October 29-30, two of our incredible Education Action Team (EAT) members joined a transformative learning trip to the Springfield Empowerment Zone (SEZP) in Springfield, Massachusets! 🚀🌟
The visit offered a firsthand look at innovative, student-centered public schools that thrive on collaboration between communities, unions, and district staff. The SEZP model empowers educators with flexibility to create tailored learning experiences, and the results speak volumes: SEZP has helped nearly 50% of its students move out of the state’s bottom 10th percentile, with almost 25% now in schools in the 20th percentile or higher. 📈✨
This trip was a valuable opportunity to explore how elements of this model could be adapted to support Minnesota schools. Our LatinoLEAD network is always working to drive solutions that uplift our Latine students, families, and educators—and this experience highlighted the power of community collaboration and innovation in education.
Huge gratitude to our education partners, Great MN Schools, for the invitation and partnership. https://greatmnschools.org.
